Hello good people of The Institute;
I'm HyunSik Yoon, an internationally educated 19-year-old who would do anything for this opportunity to study at your institution.
To tell you a bit about myself, I taught myself to play the guitar for the most part while I attended an international school run by the American Embassy in New Delhi, India.
When I returned to Korea upon my graduation, I realized very quickly that this is not the place for me; especially if I were to become a musician. Students - future musicians - prepare for music schools in a way that a scholar would for a university. They're all taught to play the same old things that everyone else does, are only evaluated by their abilities to play in such circumstances as various styles of jazz and blues progressions and most importantly, only an infinitesimal number of them actually make it to decent schools, because there is such a high demand and not enough supply of music schools. The environment is quite the opposite of inspiring, to say the least. Students are not given the opportunity nor the time to invest in what they are actually interested in, or create music what resonates with their own selves.
All I want is to study somewhere that provides students with the opportunity to actually broaden my horizons in music, and where no one defines what good music is for me.
I'd like to come out clean and say that I am, indeed, in desperate need for this scholarship, If I do get accepted to The Institute, upon my completion of the course, I can guarantee that you'll be facing a full-blown musician who has a profound belief in his own music; not to mention inspired and looking to inspire. |
