The PROFILE TM
series tuners are available for guitars which have humbucker pickups. The tuner
comes pre-installed in the humbucker ring with the lighted tuning indicators in
the upper edge of the ring, visible only to the user. To install, simply replace
your existing humbucker ring with the PROFILE TM that fits your guitar, hook
up a few wires and that's it! Again there is no custom installation
needed. Rings are available in flat, angled, and arched models in black or
cream color, to accommodate any guitar.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PROFILE
IMPORTANT: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY BEFORE
STARTING.
THE FLEXIBLE CIRCUIT BOARD MUST BE HANDLED CAREFULLY TO AVOID
DAMAGE.
1. Remove guitar
strings
2.
Remove the control cavity cover plate .
3.
Remove the pickup ring from the neck position pickup. Gently pull enough slack
in the cable to remove the pickup from the cavity. You should be able to do this
without disconnecting the cable at the other end. If you do not have a neck
position humbucker, use the bridge position.
4.
With the flexible circuit in the position shown in figure 1, install the pickup
into the PROFILE ring. IMPORTANT: DO NOT AT ANY TIME CAUSE THE CIRCUIT
BOARD TO CREASE OR BEND SHARPLY, DOING SO MAY DAMAGE THE TUNER.
5.
Adjust the height of the pickup so that it is flush with the
ring.
6.
Make sure the underside of the pickup is free of wax residue . Remove the
adhesive liner from the back of the circuit board and press it onto the back of
the pickup as shown in figure 3. There should be slack in the circuit board "
leg" to allow for pickup height adjustment. This leg should make an "S" shape
from the ring to the back of the pickup where the body of the circuit board is
mounted ( See Fig. 3 ) . DO NOT ALLOW THE LEG TO FOLD OR CREASE.
7.
Feed the cable from the circuit board through the existing wire holes in your
guitar. You may need to lift the other pickups from their cavities to continue
feeding the cable through the guitar. Carefully pull the cable into the control
cavity.
8.
Install the PROFILE ring as well as the other pickups that you may have
lifted out.
9.
Turn the guitar upside down and find a location for the battery holder. This
holder can be mounted inside the cavity or on the underside of the cover plate.
If there is no room for the holder supplied a common 9 volt battery clip can be
used . If there is just no room for a 9 volt battery, You can purchase a
lithium battery holder from Optronix or your local dealer.
10.
Lightly slit the jacket of the cable with a razor down about 2 ¨ö" , making sure
not to cut any of the internal wires. Remove the foil shielding from the cable.
11.
Note: The use of soldering flux is necessary when soldering this wire. Strip
back the insulation on the individual wires about 1/8" . Twist together the ends
of the red wire from the cable and the red wire from the capacitor supplied and
slip a piece of the supplied heat shrink tubing over these wires. Slide the
tubing down away from the ends. Solder these two wires to the positive ( RED )
of the battery. Slip the other piece of shrink tubing over the black wire from
the cable and solder this wire to the battery negative. Pull the shrink tubing
up over the solder joints and heat. Solder the white wire to the guitars hot
output prior to the volume control. This can be done at the output lug of the
toggle switch or at the input lug of the volume pot. Twist together the ends of
the bare wire from the cable and the bare wire from the capacitor and solder to
the common or ground of the guitar. This wiring will permit you to tune with the
volume turned all the way down. NOTE: IF YOU HAVE ACTIVE ELECTRONICS, YOU CAN
NOT USE THE SAME BATTERY SOURCE FOR BOTH SYSTEMS. A SEPARATE SOURCE MUST BE
INSTALLED FOR THIS TUNER
